How to break a video game addiction?

My little brother, 8 is ALWAYS playing video games. My parents refuse to set limits on how long he can play. I feel as though he is neglected from my family. He only invites friends over who play the game, toontown. Once there over they both go into 2 different rooms & play the game. he has recently quit sports teams to play this game. When he wakes up its the first thing he does. Before he goes 2 sleep it’s the last thing he does. When we are in the car he plays portable video games. One day, I tricked him to exiting this game and the outcome was worse than a temper-tantrum. He screamed for about 30 seconds, roaring words he shouldn’t even know. Then proceeded to scratch my neck vigorously. If I didn’t push him away, he would have seriously injured me.I have confronted him about his addictions and he refused to stop.
I feel like I am loosing one of my best friends. How do I break his addiction besides setting limits and confrontation?
Thank you

Your parents are the adults and they NEED to set some time limits and rules and serious consequences if the rules arent followed. Ive allowed my son way too much time playing video games and he wouldnt even do the simplest chores and wouldnt want to participate in family time. And talk about throwing tantrums when he has to do those few simple chores before getting on to play.Video games have turned my son into rude, thoughtless, inconsiderate, temper tantrum throwing young man and Im ready to lay down the law because of that. Please get your parents to notice his attitude before its too late like I did. I am finally cutting down his time and making sure he does his chores but so far its been hard and I sure do regret not stepping in sooner to limit the video games.

How do I break a video game addiction?

My boyfriend and I play Final Fantasy, but he is addicted to it, he plays ALL day long. If he has a day of he plays as soon as he wakes up until he passes out on the couch, and on the days he does work, since he works afternoons he palys when he wakes up until he leaves, and he gets back on it when he comes home. I am so sick of this, we do not have an intimate relationship anymore and I feel that it is because of the game, anytime I bring it up he says he doesnt care about the game he just does it to pass time...well to me thats alot of time passing. Any help would be welcome.
Thanks in advance for the helpful comments.

PS - Leaving him is not an option, I want to know how to fix this not how to run away from it.

Do not take that for an answer. I have the same problem, I showed my dad a really cool computer game and he is glued to it. I can not get him to go back to work or do anything around the house. Do your boyfriend a favor and save him. My father does not know much about computers so I can just remove the game which I am bound to do. Let him know the amount of time he is spending on it. Although i have tried this myself and it doesn't exactly work i assure you. Video game addictions die off but sometimes it can takes over a year.... (was addicted to eve-online for 18 months) If you are brave take the game away but be ready its like taking cocain from a coc addict.

Stop Playing Video Games

I'll admit it. I went through a gamer phase. I once had addictions to games like Myst, Riven and Sid Meier's Civilization. Fun as they were, I also discovered how destructive video game addiction can be. They are the biggest time wasters in the world. I could sit down and play Civilization 4 right now and go for 8 hours before I noticed anything my body was crying out for . - a restroom break, something to eat...etc. At that point you're so famished, you'll eat whatever garbage is in your fridge (another reason to purge junk food from your home). So that covers off the overweight angle. The depression is predictable too. Those who are flat out addicted to games like Warcraft spend all their time on their game. They call in sick and ignore family responsibility. Everything becomes a nuisance, an obstacle in their quest to feed their gaming addiction. Children who are gamers are headed for that same life. Before long, you or your child's life is going to unravel. Life unravelling and horrible...
