Why Are Online Video Games So Addictive and Can Someone Find a solution to my Addiction?

I love playing online video games on my computer, but I play over(my parents tell me to stop but I don't)a lot. I know I should stop but for some reason I just have to keep on playing. Why are they so addictive and can someone help me make my addiction go away?
lol such good answers(the first three) idk who to pick as best answer =O lol
wow such good answers and btw even tho i wanna spend mony on online games my parents dont let me. i play the free online games but u can use ur mony on it its optional. so i dont use mony on teh online games

I don't know why it's so addicting but I was addicted to it myself for a few years.

eventually i cut off my internet access and went cold turkey, it was hard but I got through it.

I suggest you move your PC into a family room, get it out of the bedroom where you'll always be tempted.

the hard part is if you're like me, all your friends are online too, so it's harder to quit, try to organise a day with them outside of the house, like to the movies or go paintballing.

if you really do want to quit talk to your parents about it, they'll be able to help you too.

try chaning your net access to dialup speeds, that'll put a choke on online gaming

Video Game Addiction Explained

www.discoverynews.com Video games are notorious for their dedicated players. Kasey-Dee Gardner finds out why gamers can sometimes become addicted ...

Are Video Games Addictive? I have alot of video games, but seem to want more. Are they addictive like a drug?

I don't know why I am not happy with the games that I already have. I keep on wanting more. Anyone else in my shoes who feels like they never have enough games or systems? IS it a bad thing to be so into games?

if you think that being into games affects your life in a bad way its a bad thing and its not good to play too much
yes video games can be addictive
and if you get everything you want there will be no end
spend sometime outdoors to keep your mind off video games

Why do you think Video games can be really addictive?

People say that video games are really addictive, why do they say that?

Some games give you abilities to do the imposible or just things you dream about doing. So of course you are going to be addicted! For example: Who doesn't what to be invisible/ fly or walk through walls?

Also they can help to release anger. Somtimes it's the exact opposite though.

Plus they can give you a sense of accomplishment. I know everytime i'd beat a game i'd be like oh yea who's good?

Do You Think That Video Games Are Addictive?

Considering the fact that a user that played the Online Game Everquest committed suicide over losing all of his armor and weapons. I want your full opinion not just a solution or yes or no.

My opinion is that video game playing should be controlled by the player. Even though I do play video games more than i should. It's more than a recreation to me. Football players play Football. Gamers play games. Addicts cant stop.
Please read the description. Full opinions please. not just Yes or No.

I feel that people are going to typically be fanatical about something in their life, or other. Sometimes it's their family, or games, or other hobbies; as you say, football is another good one.
But sometimes, people become overly fanatical, and can even a bit obsessive about things.

So yes, they can be addictive, if you let them. As with anything in your life, you have to learn where to set your limits and boundaries and have enough responsibility to manage yourself and your activities (and your money, and your eating, etc etc etc... that rule applies in so many places).

are video games addictive? do you find them addictive?

whats your opinion. personally i think they are. II've been addicted to somputers games before, (well i spose it was a minor addiction compared to some people i know) But i know some people will say 'thats your fault, your just lame, stop playing video games and go get a life' but i think that they really can suck you in. dont u think? and whats the game you find most addictive?

Im already addicted and i even wear glasses with a grade of maybe i think 550 + and sometimes its not that addictive anyway thanks man

Everyone knows the video game classics – you can’t go wrong with Mario, Zelda, or Donkey Kong. But there are some games out there that make you really wonder what the publisher was thinking when they green-lighted the idea. Although, to be fair, a couple of plumbers wandering around in a fantasy world jumping down pipes and talking to human toadstools doesn’t sound very profitable either… At any rate, here are 10 video games I thought were particularly strange.

1. Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game. IGN sums this up perfectly and eloquently with one word: Seriously? It’s apparently a collection of mini-games that includes such thrillers as ripping up photographs, flicking away doubts and, yes, surgery (that part might actually be pretty cool). Seems slightly unnecessary.

2. Ninjabread Man. The name totally made me laugh, but the game is definitely… half-baked, if you will? Yes, you’re a gingerbread man with throwing stars and a machete, which is sweet. But according to all of the reviews, the gameplay is terrible, the graphics are abysmal, and the bugs are rampant. But still… it’s a murderous pastry! How often does that happen?? Oh, wait…
