Does age affect alcohol and heroin addiction?

I have heard of stories of a lot of grown-ups and middle-aged men getting addicted to heroin. I wonder if this is because they are old already. Does age really matter when it comes to getting addicted to drugs and alcohol?

Yes, age does matter when it comes to getting addicted to drugs and alcohol. Contrary to what you indicated, though, teenagers are more likely to become dependent on drugs and alcohol, rather than middle-aged individuals. This is because teenagers are still undergoing developments in their brain, and alcohol and heroin can impede growth, causing long-term and even permanent damages. According to a research ran by the National Institute on Alcohol Use and Abuse, those who start drinking before even reaching the age of 15 are actually four times more prone to developing alcoholism than those who start drinking at age 21.

Book about heroin addiction. Can't think of the name. Little help?

I was reading a book about a heroin addict who was telling her story to two police officers that were interrogating her at the station. The story would switch between her and several other characters. At one point in the book she tells of how she lived with a woman who took care of her and whom she loved very much. She would eventually come to leave this woman. In one of the stories there was a man going into an apartment to a friend or drug dealers house only to find the man dead and bloated. I can't remember the name of the book or author. Anyone have any idea.

Maybe it's 'Candy' by Luke Davies?

Question regarding HEROIN ADDICTION...?

Someone close to me has tried heroin...I do not anything about drugs because I have led a drug free life my whole life and I am proud of that fact. The thing is that this person confessed that they "booted" heroin on a certain Saturday Morning. They had withdrawl symptoms of dry heaving all day Satuday but after eatting they felt better. Sunday this person felt a little queasy but overall fine. Then I saw this person that following Monday Night and again she was dry heaving that night and complained of not feeling good.

Now I did not know she was "booting" heroin at the time so I had thought she ate something that went bad like a corned beef sandwich [which was her initial story btw] so I was unprepared for this.

What I want to know is this...she told me just recently that she only "booted" the heroin that initial Saturday Morning...and that was the one and only time...but I suspect she "booted" again that Monday Afternoon because of the return symptoms...who is right here ?
She initially told me she took Morphine but I know that Morphine is used to make Heroin and that she was a Heroin addict some years ago. I know I know...this is Heroin...heavy duty stuff...which is why I have my doubts that she only "booted" it up once. Are there any experts or recovering addicts who can please tell me what the HELL is going on here...is she an addict AGAIN...???

Thankx in advance for you help on this one !!!

The time she told me about she was supposed to get out of work two hours earlier and asked me to meet her. Well I waited over an hour for her to get there and found out that she got a ride from a MALE CO-WORKER and they both got their "fix" before he dropped her off to meet me. So I sort of suspect that she may have done some "favors" for him because later that night she woke up and thought I was him and she thought she had cheated on me...so I suspect that she may have or may have and not even have known it...like I said I know nothing about drugs but I know about cheating and I suspect it...am I acting crazy or should I be worried ??? I love this person but I do not want to be dragged into that world...I work too hard to lose everything...!!!

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP !!!

AshleyGirl

first of all you cannot have withdrawls like that after only 1 time use. most likely ur friend either 1. got a bad dose of heroin or 2. she has been using for awhile and is trying to quit on her own. most heroin addicts never quit, its a life long addiction and the only way they stop is death. its very sad! you can try taking ur friend to AA or a rehab center. but like i said heroin addicts never change, and the ones that say they do are only kidding themselves. i wish i could be of more help but i wish YOU well in trying to deal with ur friend.

What was the name of a woman who became a heroin addict by choice?

I have read about this woman but cannot remember her name. I believe she worked for an investment bank or held a similar respectable highly paid job. She decided to experiment with heroin, because she had the money and the time. She treated her experiences with heroin with a scientific outlook, and reported some interesting reflections on the nature of addiction. Her life story was fascinating especially from a psychological point of view; I really hope someone has heard of her and can let me know her name. I realise this is not much information to go by, and I have tried to no avail to find her name using Google - can anyone help?
Recently I've been revising for my exams and in an idle moment whilst browsing the internet about addiction (I'm studying psychology) I happened to come across an article written by one of her friend about the life of this woman. The main reason I want to find this is because the woman (heroin addict one) said a beautiful quote something along the lines of how the first time taking heroin is a pleasure you spend your whole life trying to re-attain without success.

Sounds interesting... where did you hear about this?

  • NCCC’s Responses to Carte Blanche

One has to ask, what is the premeditated agenda of Carte Blanche? Are they really interested in the salvation and healing of drug addicts or in TV ratings and sensationalism. Have they had personal experience in addiction or any training in counseling either Christian or secular? We doubt it. Once again the media has allowed themselves to be manipulated into believing the lie and caught up in the web of this deceiving nature and old identity of addiction, to prevent this from happening to you, read our answers to the questions that Carte Blanche posed to us, as NCCC refused to do on-camera interviews because of their one sided journalism, which they proved in their 2006 episode. It had no impact then and it will have no impact now because the proof is in the pudding.
