Weed & Marijuana Addiction Help? Pros and Cons of Smoking Weed?

I've been reading a lot on these yahoo answers about weed and possible mental addiction.

I have been smoking heavily, weed, on a daily basis for the past month and a half. At the highest point of the "high" i feel great and careless but all the other time know i should stop. it is getting in the way of my college studying, job and exercise. i have gained 11lbs.

What can i do to stop smoking weed besides simply stopping?

Any hotlines or any sort of help i can get? thanks so much.

Also, if someone could list the pros and cons of smoking weed.

agreed w/ def90dave. you have a perception that quitting weed is gonna be some monumental task, and this isnt the case at all. Have you even tried using your own willpower to just stop? I've known guys that have smoked for years, and they can simply quit whenever their sports season rolls around, or for whatever reason. Bud doesn't contain any nicotine.

pros- when using in moderation, it can yield unforgetable experiences with friends and in social situations. good way to get to know people. Mellows ppl out, decreases anxiety, and then of course theres the whole "high" part that many people somehow fail to mention in the pros category.

cons- when used excessivly, like any good thing, it can become somewhat harmful. Paranoia when high, and having it take up time from other aspects of your life, as you said. All you need to do is man up and smoke only when the situation calls for it.

I need some help with a Marijuana addiction???

My BF whom I have a baby with is smoking, and I don't like it. I feel like he's wasting his time and I've told him but no matter what, I end up being the one who is wrong...he says that I am always trying to change him, but I do not believe I am, I'm just trying to help him better himself but he cannot see that. He thinks that marijuana is just something he does, like how I study and go to school....I'm tired of his habit and I'm stuck because I love him but I hate what he does.....what should I do, I'm still young and I know I can find someone else, but I don't know if it's worth going through another relationship...what if it ends up the same or even worst???

He's right, you cannot force him to change. He will not give it up until he's ready to. If you continue nagging him you are going to drive him away. You need to decide if this is truely a relationship that you want to stay in or not.

How do I explain to recovering addict that it's not okay to use marijuana?

My boyfriend is an opiate addict and has been recovering for quite some time but he thinks that he can start to smoke marijuana again. His reasons are "I can smoke pot and not have the urge to do other drugs. If I do then I'll stop immediately but I haven't had the urge."

I've told him this is just his addiction talking. Studies show that marijuana is, in fact, a gateway drug. While he may not think that marijuana is addictive, it is. Withdrawal symptoms include irritability and anxiety. He tells me it helps him with his anxiety, but apparently his anxiety is from not being high. We were in a relationship long before he became addicted to opiates and I stood by him and did everything I could to help him when he was trying to get sober, but now, months later, he insists on smoking pot. He doesn't consider using marijuana to be relapsing but it's a drug and he IS a drug addict.

Can anyone help me explain this in a way he might understand? Or give me advice on what to do next

You can always threaten to leave him and say that you are not willing to stick by him and support him while he self destructs, and stick to your guns about it even though it might be hard. Eventually he will come back when he realizes that you are more important then a stupid drug. He got to find a reason to stay sober. Him smoking weed is just going to lead to one drug to the next like you already know. This is tough question girl! I'm a recovering addict. I have gone back and smoked weed a few times, but now i can't stand the way it makes me feel so i don't do it. Hopefully it will be the same for him. It is so hard to get through to an addict sometimes. It's like nothing can come in between them and there drugs. I'm sorry that i can't help you more but i wish you luck and take care.

to people that think marijuana is super bad how bout u do ur studies like i did n take a look at what i found?

tell me what u get out of reading this article

Many misleading urban legends about cannabis exist. Like LSD rumors, many were spread by anti-drug groups during the 1960s and are believed to continuously circulate today. These widespread legends claim that it is easy to overdose on the smokable variant of cannabis and that it is extremely dangerous and addictive when compared to alcohol and nicotine, when in fact alcohol and nicotine, the drugs that are claimed to be safer, are actually considered as hard drugs and both can be very addictive. Furthermore, scaling up from animal studies, a average human would need to ingest about 1.8kg of cannabis to overdose. Cannabis is not physically addictive, but can be (like all things) psychologically addictive, though this form of addiction tends to occur only after someone has been using the drug habitually[5]. Also, there are studies that show no actual increased risk of cancer from smoking marijuana, even when duration of use is expanded over several years (this could be because THC allows cells to die faster).[6] In fact, some studies indicate THC to have anticancer properties, with studies showing tumor reduction in mice.

(1) I could probably find a dozen researches that say the exact same thing. (2)I could probably find a dozen researches that say the opposite thing.

So, honestly all I know is what I've observed.
All the people I know who smoke pot have a general lack of caring. I have a friend whose parents are having some major problems right now... so several months after the problems got serious (like, her mom wasn't drinking "socially", she was always drunk) she started smoking pot. Instead of being there for her two younger siblings, she's out smoking pot every night (no joke). She, over the last few months has alowed many of her long-time friendships to slip. During the school year her grades, usually straight A's and with many challenging honors courses, have started slipping.
I know another kid, a bright young man, who started smoking pot "socially". He dropped out of highschool. Now? He does meth.
Pot often times is a gateway drug.
I'm not denying that there may be healthful benefits, it hasalso ben proven to help control epilepsy, but when looking at the positives, you must also look at the negatives... there may well be physical benefits. There are many psychological downfalls to pot, however.

Does weed and marijuana help you focusing on studying that's what I was told?

and why do i search for Codeine in pain killers and it makes me in a very good calm mood ?
why does many kinds of addictions cause you nose bleeding?

no it doesn't help....

When I was young and more idealistic I seriously considered going to law school to be a full time advocate for groups like NORML and the like.

During this period the Campus NORML chapter invited underclassmen to attend a get to know NORML meeting with the promise of a screening of the classic Reefer Madness (newly released on DVD at the time).

I got my roomates and a few local layabouts pumped about checking this out and getting involved with the movement so we showed up in what turned out to be an empty room with us and a few other puzzled College students.

After about 15 minutes some officer of the group showed up, had the DVD, and said things would be running shortly... 10 minutes later the President of Campus NORML showed up with a small TV on a push cart sitting on a VCR...

The two "dudes" kinda laughed back and forth for a while - realizing they couldn't play a DVD in a VCR - and then the President was like "Class Dismissed!"

Needless to say - my friends and I realized that - despite our enjoyable casual usage - that smoking every day makes you an F-in MORON!

I am additcted to bmarijuana/b, what are some specific treatements b.../b

Marijuana was always thought of as the "safe" drug…As you have experienced it is not, and lots of people will not admit to being addicted. Marijuana addicition is the same as any addiction…Your body needs detoxifcating first. So you firstly need to go to a detox unit, then when your body is detoxified you need to go to a rehab. People take Alcohol dependency serious, but very few people take Marijuana addiction seriously. It has been a while since I have worked in the drug and alcohol industry. I worked for the Salvation Army and they took marijuana use seriously and they used the same techniques on people who had an alcohol and marijuana addiction alike. The very best chance of a person to come clean and to stay clean was to book themselves into a full facility Rehab Centre…By that I mean…a medical detox unit and a rehab programme which had several steps. A medical detox because there would always be a doctor on standby if a client got into trouble while he was detoxing. I dont know what facilities are in your area…..I live in Australia, but anybody who is educated in drug and alcohol related issues will know that your dependency is no less than any other dependency and they will be able to guide you to the best possible facility. I strongly recommend the Salvation Army as they seem to have the hightest rate of success….well they did when I was in the business. And I think they were pioneers in recognising the same steps need to be taken for any person who is dependant on any substance. There were heaps of people who were marijuana dependant in their rehab program and that was over ten years ago…so technologies must have improved since then. So the facts I gave you are based on what I saw the Salvation Army do. I cannot comment on what is available these days. I just know there are treatment programs that will help you. If you dont like the look of one, then try another. You need to shop around to find the best possible program that you believe will work for you because everyone is different….Lots of people for one reason or another cannot spare the time to go into a long term Rehab Program, but there are other alternatives.
