Treatment 4 marijuana addiction anyone please?

Marijuana may not be addicting but it is a psychological habit type thing...find a hobby or something you enjoy doing to take up the time us use for that. Find a support person (friend/boyfriend/girlfriend/ect) You have to want it and have very strong willpower. Maybe this will help? Good luck

Looking for addiction treatment?

I'm come to realize that I have a problem with alcohol, marijuana, and online sex hookup addiction. These problems have caused the loss of my best friend and the coming loss of my boyfriend. I look and look online for help but I can't find what i'm looking for.

I live in New York city and am trying to seek counseling for these problems, but everything I come across seems to be so serious, like hard drugs and stuff. How do I find a councilor for what I'm looking for.

can anyone help

Marijuana Addiction: How to recover?

I have a friend who has been a steady marijuana smoker for 8 years. He wants to quit, but is scared of the withdrawal. Are treatment programs helpful in this regard?

There is no withdrawal physically. It is not a narcotic - with drugs like cocaine and heroin, they alter the chemical makeup of your brain so it thinks that you need it. So your brain thinks that they are essential.
With marijuana, it's more like quitting smoking cigarettes. It's at least 60% habit, so he might not be a nice person to be around for about a week. He'll probably also have mood swings after he quits.
So, to the point, he will probably have an "emotional" withdrawal period because it's been such a prominent habit, but no physical sideaffects.
There ARE treatment programs for marijuana smokers, but he isn't going to be in pain or anything - just a bit grumpy. I think that as long as he has supportive friends and will power, he'll be okay.
Good luck to him!

I am additcted to marijuana, what are some specific treatements offered for this affliction?

And I don't mean opinions, I mean facts. What do treatment centers ACTUALLY DO for someone admitting themselves for marijuana addiction?

Marijuana was always thought of as the "safe" drug...As you have experienced it is not, and lots of people will not admit to being addicted. Marijuana addicition is the same as any addiction...Your body needs detoxifcating first. So you firstly need to go to a detox unit, then when your body is detoxified you need to go to a rehab. People take Alcohol dependency serious, but very few people take Marijuana addiction seriously. It has been a while since I have worked in the drug and alcohol industry. I worked for the Salvation Army and they took marijuana use seriously and they used the same techniques on people who had an alcohol and marijuana addiction alike. The very best chance of a person to come clean and to stay clean was to book themselves into a full facility Rehab Centre...By that I mean...a medical detox unit and a rehab programme which had several steps. A medical detox because there would always be a doctor on standby if a client got into trouble while he was detoxing. I dont know what facilities are in your area.....I live in Australia, but anybody who is educated in drug and alcohol related issues will know that your dependency is no less than any other dependency and they will be able to guide you to the best possible facility. I strongly recommend the Salvation Army as they seem to have the hightest rate of success....well they did when I was in the business. And I think they were pioneers in recognising the same steps need to be taken for any person who is dependant on any substance. There were heaps of people who were marijuana dependant in their rehab program and that was over ten years ago...so technologies must have improved since then. So the facts I gave you are based on what I saw the
Salvation Army do. I cannot comment on what is available these days. I just know there are treatment programs that will help you. If you dont like the look of one, then try another. You need to shop around to find the best possible program that you believe will work for you because everyone is different....Lots of people for one reason or another cannot spare the time to go into a long term Rehab Program, but there are other alternatives.

I just have to comment about the asker who said it is not a physical addiction and she was a former drunk, what terrible advice...dont listen to her...it is a physical addiction....an addiction is really a dependency on a drug to make you feel ok. I have seen heaps of people go through withdrawals when they stop using marijuana. I have seen people become psychotic with excessive marijuanna use, and while I am not as well read as I once was, it was thought to be the cause of a lot of mental illnesses....schitzophrenia being one of them. Do you know that nothing can be said about any kind of drug unless it has been properly tested for 10 years and that is just the start because lots and lots of studies need to be carried out to tell you something is a fact. Look at smoking, it has only been over the last couple of years that we are told that smoking causes lung cancer....previous to that the warning only said it MAY cause cancer...it MAY cause healthy problems....so marijuana studies are still being carried out and will continue to be carried out in order for the medical profession to telll you What this drug definitely does to your body. I do know that marijuanna gets stored for months at a time in the fatty tissues of a persons body, so what kind of damage would that be doing to your body? It is serious alright...I am glad you are seeing it as serious. Sorry for going on, its just that comment from the ex drunk made me mad because she gave you wrong information.

  • Treatment for Marijuana Addiction: What To Expect

Marijuana addiction is a subject that gets either little attention or all the wrong type of attention. Their is ample evidence that is neither as addictive nor as destructive as legal drugs such as caffeine or tobacco, yet there is also the real world experience of users who claim they are indeed addicted to using this plant to get high. Either way, every year, drug rehab facilities see the admittance of thousands of people seeking help with their behavior in regards to marijuana usage.

If you are going to a rehabilitation facility to change your behavior, the idea of being “locked up” can be a little scary. Knowing what to expect can help put this fear into proper context. That being said, this article will take a look at common themes in most drug rehab centers, no matter what the substance is you are dealing with.

    1. A lot of structure and a schedule to follow. This keeps people on track and busy, but the schedule will also allow for personal time and relaxation. But expect to be put on track and not make too many decisions when it comes to bed times and meals and other group activities.
