I'm doing a research on various kinds of addiction and would like to get more information regarding gambling addiction. I think it would be good to ask people about their experience, hence the search for treatment centers.
I don't think you'd be allowed to interview the patients. You might just have to settle for interviewing the therapists and counselors.

I am 29 in California. I am employed and make over $100,000. I have a gambling addiction which has ruined my life. I owe a lot of money but i owe $30,000 among 3 different credit cards, a USBank Card, CitiCards, and Discover Card. I have lost all my money and can't afford any of these payments. 2 of the cards have let me go over my credit line. I am currently attending Gamblers Anonymous and seeing a therapist for my problem. But i was wondering if you guys had any solutions to what i can do about the credit card debt. Can i work something out with my credit cards companies? Or can i say i'm not paying because online gambling is not supposed to be allowed with credit cards but yet somehow all 3 of those cards let me gamble with their cards? Do you guys have any suggestions about how i can maybe get out of paying this debt or at least getting it reduced? Thanks,

You might get your problem solved by telling them about your addiction. If you agree to pay 20¢ on the dollar that you owe. The settlement would be for cash today; not a payment plan..
I'm especially interested in those who are willing to accept patients with gambling addiction. I know someone who has this compulsion to gamble his money away. He would bet on a lot of things and then lose, but he still won't stop. He has even gone so far as to steal money just so he could have something to gamble away. He says he doesn't want to live like this anymore but he can't help it. I would really like to help him find a treatment center.
I'm really sorry about what has happened to your friend. I do hope that he gets treated soon. Gambling brings about an adrenaline rush and such elation when you win. That's probably the reason why he has turned into a compulsive gambler. Anyway, I'm sure there are treatment centers out there who are adept at handling cases like his. You can also take your brother to a doctor or psychologist and have him checked up properly. The doctor will know what kind of treatment program and which treatment center will be right for him.

Gambling addiction has become more than just a serious problem and I personally believe that the proliferation of the "Native American" casinos to be a catalyst for more problems than just gambling addictions.

I don't know what it is that draws people to slot machines like a magnet. Maybe it's the flashing lights and the spinning, but I'm not a psychiatric professional so anything I say is merely my opinion.
I went to some Native American casinos years ago, when they first started operating. At first, large payouts at the slots were commonplace, happening every single day. As the clientele started increasing, the casino thieves started "tightening" the slot machines. According to people I've been in contact with, the payouts are no longer frequent and not very large when they happen.
