Does anyone know how start to control food addiction?
131 of 365: Secret #20 Addicted and Anti Emo

I have been overweight for a few years & it just seems to be getting worse. A lot of my money goes on takeaway food. Also how do i get more motivated to exercise more?

I struggled with food addiction myself. I've found the best long term solution to be a 12-step fellowship such as Food Addicts Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Food Addicts in Recovery, Eating Addictions Anonymous. 12-step fellowships, which are all based off Alcoholics Anonymous, have proven to be the most effective way persons with addiction problems recover long term. Food addiction is an addiction like any other. The twelve steps help get down to the root of the issue and give addicts the tools to live life on life's terms, allowing the person to be free from the bondage of addictive substances. Anonymous programs for food addiction and compulsive overeating hold meetings all over the country. You can find a nearby meeting online. Each program has it's own website with a meeting locator. The members of these fellowships will more than likely welcome you with love and explain more the philosophy of the Program.

How can I control my addiction to junk food?

I love junk food whether its candy, chips, or a slurpee. But I don't like throwing it up after I've eaten too much. How can I keep my addiction under control?

Two things:

First, your body craves what it's used to. Start off by working one healthy item into your diet...say just adding an apple or two each day.

You'll find you're craving the apple right along with the Twinkies. Gradually you can substitute more junk food with healthy food.

Next, when you're on a mostly junk food diet, you don't realize how much it's dragging down your energy level, your attitude, etc. Even after just 2-3 days of eating healthy, you'll notice a major improvement in your outlook and your performance. That can be a powerful motivator to stay on a healthier diet.

I have an addiction to food that I cannot control... How can I lose weight?

I seem to have an uncontrolable addiction to food. I know many people will say, "Doesn't everyone?" But for me... Once I put something in my mouth, I can't stop eating. I feel fat, and I want to lose weight. But the problem is I can't stop eating. I exercise 5 days a week for about an hour, but then I go home and often over eat. How can I control my addiction so I can lose weight?

Dear Nicole,
This is a subject that I think I can answer. I have been there and it is no joke trying to take the weight off after it is put on.
I lost my husband of 35 years 2yrs ago. I took out my anger and rage on food and nothing else mattered except food. About 6 months ago I felt that I could not breathe I mean it was difficult for me to breathe. I finally went to my doctor who told me my pressure was raised, my doctor said too much fat around the heart could kill me, that's all I had to hear. I joined a gym and worked out also 5 days a week but, instead of cramming junk food into my stomach I crammed fruit or cottage cheese. Even if you are addicted to food other than your regular meals which by the way limit the portions. Fruit will fill you up and while you are cramming with fruit you are stuffing healthy food into your system, drink at least 8 cups of water a day, water cleans out the system, stay away from sodas especially pepsi or coke which have alot of cafferine, ginger ale is good and alot of fresh juice. If you stick with this routine you will see results.
Good Luck

How can I control my addiction to food?

My significant other and I are both addicted to eating and we are both overweight. I've tried to control my food cravings but I always give in the them so easily.

Here is an example of a typical day of eating for me:

12:00 pm - breakfast - eggs with sausage
bagel with butter

4:00 pm - soda

7:00 pm - dinner - bowl of home made orange chicken fried in oil

8:00 pm - bowl of ice cream

9:00 pm - bowl of ice cream

12:00 am - chips and dip, soda

1:00 am - soda and ice cream

2:00 am or 3:00 am - bed time

I know this seems gross but I need some help. Any advice?

Try drinking more water. You may find that it suppresses your appetite. Eating small meals many times during the day is fine, but what matters is WHAT you eat! Try some healthy alternatives to the chips, dip and ice cream. Also make sure that you're getting some exercise during the day, even if it's just a 20-30 minute walk in the evening.

addicted to food? know any good ways to break the addiction?

I have been a food lover from the day i was born! I was a cook for 5 years. I keep gaining weight because all i want to do it eat! I love food! I exercise daily and try to eat "healty". I want to and need to get myself from this food addiction. I've tried to control it. Ive tried to "just not eat" but i cant! any ideas?

Try limiting your choices at 2 meals a day. I have the same thing for breakfast every day--a cereal bar, coffee and yogurt.
Lunch is almost always a salad with lots of veggies and chicken, sometimes fish. Dinner is fish or meat with a side of veggies and a salad. I plan my meals and my snacks.
And I am limiting myself to beef once per week. If in doubt
about a food, I cut the portion in half. I'm slowly losing about 2 pounds a week right now, and that's okay with me. One day a week, I have dessert or a glass of wine or maybe a half a baked potato or sweet potato. I let myself get 100 pounds overweight, and it took years to get into this shape. I'm willing to spend a year working on getting back to healthy eating. I'm using more variety in my preparation of my food.
Good Luck!
