My yorkie has been diagnosed with allergies, and suffers from terrible itching. The vet believes the allergy may be related to his food. Has anyone had any success out of using Addiction brand dog food in Kangeroo and Apples in dealing with their dog's allergies?

Addiction Foods is featured on the news in Seattle

I'm trying a food trial with my dog and just wondering if anyone else has tried it. My dog chews and gnaws on her feet and rest of body year round and I'm hoping this raw, unique diet will cure her.
She is currently on Innova Evo Turkey and I'm suspecting an allergy (possibly chicken which they also put in it).

Have you tried putting your dog on an exclusion diet to determine if it is the chicken in the current food? Have attached some guidelines you could refer to with regards to the exclusion diet (links below). I would also strongly advise bringing her to a vet to get professional help on her condition.

Having said that, I have been feeding my dog Addiction's raw dehydrated food for about a year and he really loves it. Like you, I originally started him on their canned brushtail several years ago because he was allergic to his previous food brand. He has no problems with any of the Addiction foods. I have also noticed that Addiction has a grain-free Salmon dry food that I am keen to add to my dog's diet, you could look it up on their website and give it a try. All the best!

I've been doing some research. The other brands that sell Raw Dehydrated food are Honest Kitchen and NRG. Addiction's looks the most yummy and their protein content is the highest. I like the fact that they also don't use chicken, beef or lamb since my dog has sensitive skin. Anyone tried this yet?

Addiction's food is the best.My dog loves it.But my advice would be to feed your dog with meat maybe once a week if he is sensitive to it.It contains proteins which will probably be needed for him.Do you feed your dog wet food?That should also be included in his diet:)

Is this one of the best dog food brands, or are there others that are better?
It is not the only food I give my dog, obviously, because she gets meat as well. But when I tried switching her biscuits, so much of her coat ended up in the sink during the next bathtime. I've tried some others, but her coat doesn't seem as healthy. I think it's the soy base in the biscuits...That's why I'm asking.
Sorry, I was not specific or detailed enough in my description. I'm am not vegetarian, nor do I want or expect my dog to be. I agree canines are meat eaters and should be fed meat as such. The biscuits I give my dog seem to help her coat a lot and form not even a quarter of her diet. I just wondered if anyone knew anything about the company who make them? Do you reckon I should change them if she is a good weight and her coat is healthy?

your dog is a carnivore - feed it meat!!

When you chose to have a dog you chose to look after it. A dog is a carnivore and is designed for eating carcasses not vegetables and grain. Would you feed a lion bananas or a shark seaweed? What is the difference?

Do some research into a species appropriate diet for your pet carnivore. While dogs are CARNIVORES they are not obligate carnivores like cats. Dogs can and do choose to eat some vegetable matter but this should not be the basis for, or even a significant proportion of, their diet.

There is no single food that is "best". For example, some dogs thrive on grain-free foods, while grain-free is too rich for other dogs. What you want to find is the high-quality food that *your dog* does best on.

Read the ingredients on the food you buy. Here is my "short list" of rules when I am looking at dog ingredients:
1) When I chose a dog food, I chose one high meat content. I want to see preferably at least 2-3 out of the top 5 ingredients be meat or meat meal (first ingredient must be!). Meal is simply the meat with the moisture removed.
2) I want to see higher quality grains, such as barley, brown rice, and oatmeal, instead of seeing wheat and corn. Or an alternative starch/carbohydrate such as potatoes or sweet potatoes.
3) I don't want to see any byproducts.
4) I don't want to see a lot of fillers.
5) I don't want to see preservatives that are believed to be carcinogens (BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin).
6) I don't want to see artificial colorings such as the Red, Blue, and Yellow dyes.
7) I don't want to see added sugars (sugar, corn syrup).
8) I don't want to see mystery meats (meats identified only as "meat" or "poultry".)
