My boyfriend plays alot of his computer game (10 hours a day, approx.) And i was wondering if theres any actual symptoms of the video game addiction? If so, what are they, besides the obvious, of playing alot, and neglecting houswork/school work, any others? Thanks!
he did quit his job about a month ago.... (a day before his game came out) but he goes to school at night time, but he normally doesnt go to all of them... only one or two of them and then comes home.

10 hours a day sounds a bit extreme. only other ones i can think of is neglect to family and friends, everyday activities such as bathing and eating, and not working or doing school, or any work for that matter by choosing to play the game instead. damn. tell him "Playing video games wont feed our future baby!" lol jk. tell him to get a job as a video game tester. he'll love that and it pays up to 80 an hour!

A good buddy of mine is addicted to World of Warcraft, an online computer game that takes place in this fantasy realm. It consumes way too much of his time and no one can seem to get him to kick the habit, not even his wife!

Any ideas out there or similar experiences?

Unplug his modem/router/ethernet cord/etc. , smack him upside the head, and tell him that you're both going to go cruise for chicks at the rollerdisco. If that doesn't work, hire a better player to pwn the shit out of him, and make him quit. If that doesn't work, uninstall the game when he's not there, and burn his CD keys. If that doesn't work, let him be and realize that WoW>You.

I friends that are addicted to computer games. They play 6-8 hours a day. What can I do to help them? What can society do as a whole to fix this growing problem?

They will usually outplay it because it is probably a new game. But if it's not and has been going on for a while ask them if they want to go to the movies or tell them straight to their face that they play too much and should hang out more. It will work

what are some of the symptoms of computer game addiction?

When everything revolves around the video game. You start calling off things with your friends, family, etc. just to play the game.
You also start snapping at people for interrupting your game.

There are many more things.

If you have any of these things, you may addicted.

Computer game addiction ...
It's just the addiction to a certain computer game...
Not a first person shooter, Not a strategy game...
It's an MMORPG called Maple Story...
It may sound weird but...
my little brother is addicted and I need him to stop
What effects will this have on him ?
How can I get him "nonaddictive"?
What future problems will this have if he keeps going with this addiction ? ? ?
Please Help

Maplestory is a repetitive game, he'll get bored of it fast. Its one of those games you wanna play hardcore for a week, maybe even two months at most, and then you quit all together when you realize your doing the exact same thing over and over everday.

You can also force him to stop. Block MapleStory's PORT number from your router, and he won't ever be able to get MapleStory running. Maplestory is an online game.

MapleStory, sadly, has no parental time setup. Even if it did, he would probably take it off.

But for addiction problems, does he still get his work/homework done? As long as his studies aren't going lower, I guess let him have his fun. Although he probably won't have many friends for long if the people around him let him have an internet addiction, you better raise your grade expectations on him since hes pretty much a nerd.

It won't have any affects on him(besides wasting his youth and social life), his eye sight might be a bit weaker in a couple of years, not bad enough to need glasses though... hopefully.

Also, MMORPGs, like maplestory, are games designed to be addicting like that. When he gets bored, he might jump to another MMORPG. You can always teach your brother how to manage his time, and how work with an addiction. An MMO addiction is no worse than a smoking/drug addiction. It would be a lot healthier if you helped him gain self-control from that addiction.
