computer addicts?
Farmville addicts

I love my computer. Really, I do. It never questions, merely peforms what I dictate to it. I talk to my friends on it, I listen to my music, I programme new life and all I have ever wanted is available on the digital supercontinent of the internet. So why is it a bad thing to spend time doing something you love?
me too! Pizza and gaming is the best

It isn't bad. It's your life, your choice, and, if it isn't hurting another person, why not spend time on a computer.

But, there are people who like to label and pass judgment.

People Politics | Computer Addiction - A problem for many young people

Many children hardly play with their peers and instead sit in their rooms on the computer. More and more young people are becoming computer ...

What are some ways to not make you so computer-addicted?
achter het scherm

I live in the city. There is nothing to do around here. I have 2 dogs and movies but thats all. What can I do to take my mind on the computer and distract me? I want to get on less often, and to stop being so addicted. I hate being a computer nerd.

What a Freudian slip you made, "What can I do to take my mind on the computer..." I think you meant, "take my mind OFF the computer," haha.

Get some fresh air (but you're in the city so you might have to take an oxygen tank around with you to get fresh air, haha). Walk the dogs to the park. Find people online who share your interests, then meet them in a group (like Mensa or something). etc.

I'm sure there must be a 12-step program for this. They've got one for all kinds of addictions. Going to such meetings would be a sure-fire way to meet people with your same interests, but in an environment away from the addictive activity!

How can I stop being such a computer addict?!?

Okay, I am like a computer addict. I always go on the computer(like 3 hours a day!) and sometimes I worry that I'll get fat. I tried finding something else to do, but I always go go right back to the computer! Please, help me find a plan to get my butt off the addictive computer!

Thanks

I'm an addict, too. Try doing something else or reading a book.

why is it drug addicts and computer aficionados are both called users?

Thanks to Linux, I'm a "super user"
;-)

how do i stop from being a computer addict?

how can i stop from being a computer addict???

and is it true that being addict to the computer can make our intelligence decrease?

Let your computer help you go cold turkey! Try Sleepy, which is software for Windows PCs that automatically turns off the computer at night (and can keep it off all night).
-Get involved in some non-computer related fun to encourage your other areas of enjoyment.
-If you feel that this addiction is hindering your daily functions, chores and activities and all else fails try seeking professional counseling

Before your issue gets worse or takes over your life completely please try and get help. Good luck

Computer addictions do exist and can be harmful to your social life, education and any other areas of your life that your computer time takes away from. Some symptoms include:
-Do you feel preoccupied with the Internet (think about previous on-line activity or anticipate next on-line session)?
-Do you feel the need to use the Internet with increasing amounts of time in order to achieve satisfaction?
-Have you repeatedly made unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back, or stop Internet use?
-Do you feel restless, moody, depressed, or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop Internet use?
-Do you stay on-line longer than originally intended?
-Have you jeopardized or risked the loss of significant relationship, job, educational or career opportunity because of the Internet?
-Have you lied to family members, therapist, or others to conceal the extent of involvement with the Internet?
-Do you use the Internet as a way of escaping from problems or of relieving a dysphoric mood (e.g., feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety, depression)?
