It is very difficult to do on your own. A very close person to me was a crack addict, has been to rehab more than once and it was the only way to make him stop for a while. He is off it now and I hope he stays that way. He used "Rivea" for a while, a medicine to block the receptors of cocaine effect and I think he was on anti-depressants too.

I am a recovering (never say recovered - 6 yrs though) addict of another CDS and so is my husband, but he is struggling with this crack addiction. I want to know what exactly crack is doing when inhaled. I am very unfamiliar with this and it is the most powerful thing I have ever seen. He has made a commitment to stopping but I want to know more for me. I've looked at websites, but you always get the best info from people who have been through it or know first hand.

First of all, I wouldn't use the words "recovered" or "recovering". Those words imply that something happened to you as a result of someone else's actions. Whatever you're going through with your addiction is a result of your actions.

Crack or any other type of cocaine does not produce a physical addiction; it does, however, produce a VERY STRONG psychological addiction. Your husband CAN overcome this, but it will, in my opinion, involve relocating so that he is away from his sources. A LONG way away. If people around him are still doing crack, he needs to tell them "goodbye, nice knowing ya", and never associate with them again.

Any free-based cocaine, when smoked, produces a strong feeling of well-being, an extreme burst of energy, and a feeling of invincibility. For about 10 minutes, then one begins to "crash". Subsequent smoking will not produce the same effects, but the user will keep smoking it anyway, convinced that he CAN reach the same high. But he can't. Pretty soon, all your money is gone. Also, if the dose is large enough, it can kill you.
