What are the known effects of alcohol addiction?
visit-residential-treatment

A friend of mine is suffering from it and I want to help him realize how alcohol affects him. I am planning to tell him to enter an alcohol rehab center to curb his problem.

Alcohol really have some nasty effects on individuals. Some of the most well-known effects include liver cirrhosis, pancreatitis, alcoholic dementia, heart disease, nutritional deficiencies. Many instances have been recorded which shows that alcohol affects one's sexual capacity, and, at times even leading to death.

Alcohol dependency also affects one's marriage and social life. Some lose their job, their hard-earned money, even their dreams. And we know too well of violence against women and children committed by drunk individuals. Clearly, the liquid can be a very dangerous substance when gobbled down too much. I hope your friend realize this before it gets too late.

Effects of addiction on the family?
rehab-visit-love

Would someone (knowledgable professional) please explain the effects of drug/alcohol addiction on the family? Please give as many examples as possible.

Individuals who are addicted are not the only people drugs tend to affect. The family is affected in a HUGE way.

+They can be enablers by giving the user money, supplies, etc
+They are drained emotionally, often feel helpless
+They are angry because the user chooses drugs over them
+They are often victims of abuse (outrage, etc from user)
+Users will steal from their family to sell things for drug money
+Families are torn between trying to help the user get sober without driving them completely out of their lives
+The cost of treatment can be very expensive, some families are not able to provide that
+Family member are working and contributing to society while the user's goal is getting high. This causes anger and resentment.

+Children tend to receive the worst affects simply because they need a positive role model in their lives and they are not mature enough to comprehend what addiction is, why the user chooses it over them, and children often blame themselves for the problems that are caused.

thanks so much

1. As your use increases you must hide it from friends and family.

2. Since you are spending more time getting loaded, and the folks might notice, you tend to avoid them. Old friends drop by the wayside as new using buddies take their place. This leads to isolating yourself from your family.

3. As the addiction progresses the addict will inevitably find it necessary to lie to family, and perhaps to steal from them to support an increasingly expensive habit.

I have a fiancee who drinks a lot and likes clubbing. He was married and divorced with 3 grown children. I scarred to marry him because of his addiction to alcohol. He can drink 4 bottles of heineken beer or guiness at a sitting and some shots of hot drink. This is an everyday drink. He prefers alcohol to water so he must taste alcohol everyday and must drink it before he goes to bed. While with a bottle of beer or glass of hot drink in his hand he falls asleep at night snoring. I considering not marrying him because of this. I have made several attempts counseling him on the the effect of alcohol but he refused to stop. Please advice me.

Cold showers usually work, but not the kind with water. The addiction has taken his life purpose from him and you can not salvage any for your needs. The alcohol is the other woman, the other everything. he is in bondage and he must come through it asking for the only one who can save him. many men and women have their hearts shredded because they come face to face with that bondage and the love you have for him will only cost you both your lives. you will fail and both die in pain. The only way to help him is to pray for his salvation from bondage and offer him the love you both so desperately need and understand; There is no greater power than the Love of God.

  • Hi, I#39;m new here, and ineed to vent - Cyber Recovery Social b.../b

Hi, I'm new to this website. I just felt like getting some things off my chest... In my family we were raised to not talk about our problems, which is why i guess it's so hard for me to talk about mine... Both of my parents are alcoholics... My father has been for as long as i can remember, and my mother didn't even drink until my father left her. Sometimes I don't know how to deal with it. My mother has atempted suicide over 5 times. Every time she has been drunk. And every day i fear she will do it again. I know she is unhappy and there is nothing i can do about it. I call her everyday to talk. but she wont answer if she has been drinking, so i only talk to her a couple times a week, and only if it's before 10am. She was sober for about 6 months around my 21st birthday, after an intervention, and we were all so proud of her. She was going to AA meetings and everything! Unfortunately my Mom has been diagnoed with agoraphobia, which is fear of people and public places. This comes from the...
